Cold Formed Steel Module

Software tool for engineers to design and check cold-formed steel members

Module Description

Cold Formed Steel Design is an essential tool for any engineer who checks or designs individual cold-formed steel members such as single or multi-span beams, columns, braces, truss chords, etc. Inputs can be entered in less than 5 minutes and without complex models.

Flexural and axial members will be designed in compliance with the Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual 2017 and in conjunction with the AISI S 100-16 specifications. ASD, LRFD, and LSD methods of design will be available along with the respective load combinations.

Technical Specifications

  • Delivers fast, dependable design checks for beams and beam‑columns using the latest AISI S100‑16 Cold‑Formed Steel Specification.
  • Uses the full AISI S100‑16 section database, giving engineers immediate access to modern, code‑aligned shapes.
  • Features an improved optimization engine that no longer requires width inputs for tubes and angles — speeding up design and reducing errors.
  • Handles real‑world behavior with separate top and bottom flange bracing, seismic load cases, and ASCE 7‑16 automatic load combinations.
  • Supports extensive loading: beams (up to 40 concentrated or linear loads) and beam-columns (up to 48 transverse, axial, linear loads, and end moments about either axis.)
  • Designs multi‑span members with up to 18 spans and flexible end conditions — pinned, fixed, or cantilever.
  • Produces exceptionally detailed calculation reports, showing every AISI equation used, the substituted values, and the resulting checks — ideal for learning or review.
  • Generates clean shear, moment, and deflection diagrams plus polished RTF reports compatible with Word.
  • Supports US and metric units with a simple, engineer‑friendly interface focused on speed, clarity, and accuracy.
